San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick says he will keep sitting during the National Anthem because of injustice. Colin Kaepernick made headlines over the weekend after he did not stand for the National Anthem during a preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. During an interview after the game Kaepernick was asked about why he didn’t stand and he responded with, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” He went onto say, “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

The NFL has responded to the controversy saying, “Players are encouraged but not required to stand during the playing of the national anthem.”
